How we verify every listing

“Free” lists go stale fast. Here's exactly how we check what we publish, so you can decide how much to trust it.

Our check, step by step

  1. We go to the source. Each listing is checked against the organizer's or business's own page: their website, an official event page, a city or county calendar, or an official post. A tip or another “free stuff” site is only a lead. We don't publish anything from it until we find the original.
  2. We confirm it's really free (or what it costs). We read the cost in the organizer's own words. If a page never says it's free, we leave it out. Conditions such as ages, memberships, registration or “with purchase” go in the fine print.
  3. We record the date and the link. Every listing carries a “Checked” seal with the date we last confirmed it, plus a link to the source, so you can double-check in one tap.
  4. We rate our confidence. High means we confirmed the details on the official source. Medium means it's confirmed, but some details come from a secondary source or may change. If we can't confirm something at all, it isn't listed.
  5. We re-check before the date. We re-check listings as their dates approach, starting with anything happening in the next few days and anything marked medium. If something changes we update it; if we can't re-confirm it, we take it down.
  6. We expire things. When an event or deal ends, it drops off the lists automatically. Its page stays up with an “ended” notice, so old links don't mislead anyone.

What the labels mean

Corrections

Spot something wrong? Every listing page has a “Report a problem” link. Reports go straight to our re-check list, and we fix or remove the listing once we've confirmed the change. You don't need to give your name or email.

What we don't do

Right now we track 123 live listings this way. See them all, or read about us.
